Here's what the real Experts have to say...
The Miracle Whip
"Thought you might be interested to know that I received my antenna last week. Saturday was my first opportunity to use it, and I worked OZ9Y for my first QSO, on 10 SSB, running 2 watts with my battery-powered FT-817, from an easy chair in my living room."
Tom Ashely, AA4A
"WOW - it is brilliant! Within several hours of its arrival at my temporary qth here in Coventry, I had worked GW, DJ, 9A, PA and IK using 5 watts of CW on 7 MHz, 14 MHz and 21 MHz and had RU3FN nr Moscow with 5 watts of PSK31 on 14.070 MHz...
Have worked most of Europe today in the CQ WW CW Contest, and had two contacts into USA across the pond! I was using 5 watts from my TS-2000 into the Miracle Whip which was resting on the window sill on the end of a short patch lead! My current (temporary) qth will not accept an external antenna, so the Miracle Whip is allowing me to keep active, albeit in QRP mode. Great fun and many thanks for a wonderful new accessory. Probably the best accessory that I have ever bought - I hesitate to call it miraculous, but is certainly very, very good!" - Rod G0FBY
"I love that little antenna. Last night I worked Bermuda and Costa Rica from my kitchen table! If you love QRP this takes it to a new level of sport!"- Bill W9WCR
" I've had one for several weeks now and am very satisfied with the performance. The real benefit is single knob tuning -- you just peak up the noise on receive and you're set to transmit. I've worked a tremendous number of stations portable with just a short counterpoise and 2.5 watts. I also have an ATX and IMHO - the Miracle is a much better all-round performer." - John KR1O
"With the FT-817 and similar rigs in mind, I would describe the Miracle Whip as possibly one of the very best accessories you could get for a portable QRP transceiver." - As reviewed in RadCom by Chris Lorek, G4HCL
"I ordered one and was delighted by the quality construction and documentation with it... .I screwed it onto the back of the rig, plugged the rig into my car's cigar lighter socket, hooked up my Bencher paddle (which weighs more than the CAR! And worked the first three guys I called on 20M CW! And I was running 1 watt! - Gerry N2GJ
"I’m really delighted with the Miracle Whip . It is exactly the kind of antenna I wanted. It has surpassed my expectations. It does exactly what you claim, right from the moment you take it out of the box. I’ve spent more time just fiddling with the MP-1 than I’ve spent using the Miracle Whip and I’ve already made more contacts with the latter.
In my opinion, the easy tune-up of the Miracle Whip, coupled with the fact that it doesn't appear to need a counterpoise, makes it the ideal portable whip for casual operating with the FT-817. It's so much quicker and easier to set up, you'll use the radio more, and probably make more contacts as a result." - Julian Moss G4ILO
"I am amazed at how well it works" - John Marino KR1O
"Received the Miracle Whip Friday – checked into ECARS (40 M) with 5 watts that night!" - Paul Beeman W2PB
Well my Miracle Whip arrived Saturday, about 12 days after being mailed. Immediately unscrewed the back cover and was very impressed with the materials and workmanship. Did a little listening with it on 20 meters and signals sounded good and peaked easily and definitively. Tonight I set up the FT-817 in the living room (north Alabama), plugged in the MW and laptop and soon logged my first Miracle PSK31 QSO on 20 meters with Terry, K0UAS in Hays, KS.
Adjusting the antenna is accomplished very easily by ear: just rotate for best noise level. On 20 meters, this got me within one click of best SWR (near 1:1 on the 817 meter)... This antenna is completely no-hassle" - Bill, WA4KBD
"Theoretically speaking, the Miracle Whip will work much better than bedsprings..." - Brian N0KZ
I received my Miracle Whip just the other day and am very impressed with the quality of workmanship and the great users guide (the "Hints for Operating QRP" and experimenters suggestions is a nice touch!). I'm just doing a lot of listening for now while I learn a little more about my "817" and finish up my A/C supply, but it appears to work great on all HF bands...I'm hearing stations from Africa to Japan. Again, thanks for a great product, and the best of luck. - Everett-WB9FUW
